KnoDues - Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does You Pay / You Get appearing alongside my friends’ name signify?
KnoDues is your Shared Expenses Buddy! It helps you track your shared expenses with your friends and keeps you updated about your dues at any point in time. The balances shown on the My Dues section of the home screen imply the following:
(a) “You Get” balance: “You Get” balances appear when a friend owes you money. KnoDues is informing you that this is the amount that You (the app user) Get from your friend.
(b) “You Pay” balance: “You Pay” balances appear when you owe money to your friend. KnoDues is informing you with the amount You (the app user) Pay your friend.
2. How do I add a shared expense?
A click on the Add Expense (+) button provided at the right-bottom corner of the My Dues section of home screen will open the Add Expense Page. On the Add Expense Page, you need to:
i. Enter the amount
ii. Select the expense category (Food, Drinks, etc.
iii. Tap on “Select Contact” button to select and add your friend/s from your contact book.
iv. Click on next (top-right of the page) to review the details
v. You can also tap on amounts in the shared with section in the expense review page to change the friend’s share
vi. Click done and the expense is added and shared.
3. Can I split a shared expense with multiple friends?
Yes, you can! On the Add Expense page, under the Shared with section, you can click on “Select Contact” button and select friends from your phone’s contact book to share an expense with them.
4. How can I split an expense unevenly among my friends?
On the “Add Expense” screen, once you select your friends from the “Select Contact” button and press “next” (From the top-right corner), app takes you to the “Expense Review” screen. On the “Expense Review” screen, you can tap on amounts in the Shared With section to manually change the friend’s expense share.
5. Can I add a shared expense that has been paid by a friend?
Yes, you can! When you add an expense, KnoDues by default considers that you are adding an expense paid by you. However, in case you wish to change the payee, you can tap on your name/picture appearing on the top of the Add Expense page and it shall take you to your contact list where you can select the desired contact as payee for this particular expense.
6. Will my friends get updated when I add an expense for them or add them in a new event?.
KnoDues provides its users a bi-directional or multi-directional live screen, similar to a chatting interface, where you and your friends can add expenses & dues are visible at either ends. If you update an expense or an event with anyone in your contact book, KnoDues would automatically send them a push alert. If the contact is not on the app, he/she would be updated through a system generated SMS. Similarly, if someone updates an expense or event with you, you would get notified. App user can update the notification preferences and control them through the notification settings on the preferences screen.
7. What happens if I add an expense for a friend who is not on KnoDues?
Whenever you add an expense for a friend who is not a KnoDues user, KnoDues sends a text message (SMS) to your friend with an update that you have added an expense for him/her on KnoDues.
8. How can I edit/delete an expense previously added by me?
Edit & Delete buttons are available on the Expense Detail page, in order to enable editing or deletion of a particular expense added by you (or an expense added by a friend in which you are the payee).
9. Can I edit/delete a shared expense that has been added by a friend?
Nope, we’re afraid you can’t! However, KnoDues does provide you and your friends an option to comment on a particular expense, in case you wish to discuss the expense. Comments entered for a particular expense can be seen by clicking on “Comments” button provided on the Expense Detail page.
10. In case I settle my outstanding dues with a friend through cash or some other means, how do I update the same on KnoDues?
On the account details page of any particular friend (which can be accessed through tapping on a particular friend’s entry on the My Dues section of Home Screen), KnoDues provides a Settle button on the top right corner. You can use the Settle button in case you have settled a due with a friend either through cash or otherwise.

11. How can I remind my friends for their outstanding dues through KnoDues?
On the account details page of any particular friend (which can be accessed through tapping on a particular friend’s entry on the My Dues section of Home Screen), KnoDues provides a “Remind” button on the top right corner. You can use the Remind button in case you wish to remind your friend for an outstanding due.
12. How can I inform my friends as to when I would be able to clear my outstanding dues through KnoDues?
On the account details page of any particular friend (which can be accessed through tapping on a particular friend’s entry on the My Dues section of Home Screen), KnoDues provides an “Inform” button on the top right corner. You can use the Inform button in case you wish to inform your friend as to when you would be able to clear the outstanding dues.
13. How do I record multiple expenses under a single head of expense?
Multiple expenses under a single head of expense can be entered through the “Event” feature on the app.
14. How does the “Event” feature work?
In order to ease out managing expenses for a group of persons for the same thing / purpose, event function has been added in the app. For instance, if a group of friends go for a vacation, they can simply create an event, add all their friends to the event and in turn, all the friends on the event can add the expenses they have paid for or during the trip. If the simplify in-event button has been kept on while creating the event, the app will automatically summarize the expenses and settle intra-event expenses to arrive at the final dues. These final summary dues would automatically be linked to the person’s individual dues in the My Dues section.
15. While creating a new event, what does “Simplify-in-Event Expenses” mean?
In case the “Simplify in-event” feature has been kept on while creating an event, the app will automatically summarize the expenses by settling intra-event expenses to arrive at the final dues. The summarized transactions for an event can be seen on the “Event Summary” screen. The final summary dues would automatically be linked to the person’s individual dues.
16. Would I be able to use KnoDues when my device is not connected to the internet?
We're afraid, KnoDues can be used only when your device / mobile phone is connected to the internet.
17. How can I change my notification preferences?
Notification preferences can be updated from the Notification Settings section provided in the Preferences page (three horizontal dots placed on the top right hand corner of the KnoDues home screen).
18. Can I alter the transactions shown in the History page?
No, we’re afraid you can’t!
19. How can I update my profile?
You can tap on your photo / name appearing on the top of the home screen of KnoDues and you shall be directed towards your profile page where you can update details. Profile page can alternatively be visited by clicking on your picture appearing in the preferences section (three horizontal dots placed on the top right hand corner of the KnoDues home screen).
20. What if I change my mobile number?
We’ve a pretty smooth solution for that. All your existing account information and data can be migrated to your new mobile number. On the Edit Profile screen (which can be accessed by tapping on your profile picture on the home screen), there is an option to Change your mobile number.
21. Will my data be lost in case I uninstall KnoDues?
Nope! You can always download KnoDues again from the Google PlayStore and login again with your registered mobile number. All of your account information will be retrieved.
22. How can I invite my friends to join KnoDues?
You can simply click on Invite Friends button which is placed under the Preferences section of KnoDues, and select the friends whom you wish to invite to join KnoDues! KnoDues would be glad to have all your friends onboard!
23. Why does KnoDues verify mobile number at the time of first login?
To ensure the fact that only the actual user of the mobile number is authorized to use that particular number on the KnoDues app, KnoDues verifies the mobile number through a one-time 6 digit activation code at the instance of first login on the app.
24. KnoDues app is compatible with which devices / software platforms?
KnoDues currently supports all Android devices provided the phone / tab is running Android OS 4.0 or a higher version.
25. Which all currencies and the countries does KnoDues currently support?
As of now, KnoDues is available only to Indian users (available for download only in India) and supports INR (Indian National Rupee).
26. Will KnoDues work if I am travelling abroad?
Currently the app is available for download and activation only in India. The app will work while traveling within India or even outside India, for Indian users. However, the app wouldn’t send SMS / push alerts to persons outside India and also, the app isn’t be available for download outside India. If the app is activated in India, the app will function smoothly while travelling abroad.
